On a scale of 1-really hard, how difficult is it to motivate yourself to exercise during the winter? When your bed feels about 40 degrees warmer than your front yard, it can be difficult to pull yourself out of bed first thing in the morning. Especially if you don’t have an exercise routine in place already. But don’t let that cold weather stop you for a second! We’ve rounded up our favorite tips to get that winter exercise in, no matter how cold it is.
Warm Up Inside
As tempting as it is to put on every piece of clothing you have – skip it! More clothing equals more sweat and sweating while you’re freezing is miserable all around. So how do you stay warm? Warm-up before you head outside! Whether you pick burpees, jumping jacks, or some good old fashioned push-ups, warming up first will make a huge difference.
Wear Layers and Thick Socks
Okay, so you don’t want to put on too many clothes. So how much is enough? Make sure you wear clothes in layers and that includes your hands and feet too! Make sure you invest in some good socks, gloves, and even hats to keep your entire body warm. Light layering is the way to go!
Always Have a Plan B
Last but not least, make sure you have an exit strategy if you need one. It can go from uncomfortable to dangerous really quickly and you don’t want to be stuck in the middle of that. Have a few spots along the way that you can stop at and make sure to never leave home without a charged phone.
