Halloween is just about here and my house in pure chaos. As parents, your first year trick-or-treating is hardly as exciting as it is for kids. Every year crazy things happen and at the end of the day, we just want our kiddos to happy safe. So in light of keeping everyone comfortable, make sure that you don’t send your kiddos off without laying down some rules first. We’ve hand-picked our favorite 5 safety tips every family should know to celebrate Halloween below!
Plan, Plan, Plan
Talk about where you plan on going, how long you plan on being out, the whole nine yards. Answer all questions beforehand to avoid confusion. It’s important to make sure everyone is on the same page!
Wear Bright Colors
If possible, try to get your kiddos to wear bright colors! Whether it’s on a necklace, bracelet, shoes, headband, etc. Since it gets dark earlier and there will be a lot of people out, you want to make sure your kiddos are easily seen by drivers and vehicles on the road.
Walk With Littles The Whole Way
As much as our kiddos really crave independence, especially around Halloween, make sure you walk all the way to the door with your littles. It may seem harmless while you’re watching on the sidewalk but if anything was to happen, you want to make sure you are right there with them, holding their hand or having them in your arms.
Always Check Candy First
This was something me and my parents used to do together when I was younger! Just look out for any candy that looks like it has been opened or altered and if your littles have allergies make sure that you take anything out that could be harmful to them.
Have a Backup Plan
As we all know, things rarely go 100% to plan. In the case of separation, make sure you have a backup plan to meet back up together!
Halloween is all about the fun (and candy), but making sure everyone involved is safe and happy at the end of the night is most important. What are some of your go-to safety tips for Halloween? Let us know in the comments below!
