The holidays have finished, but the chaos at the malls and boutiques haven’t slowed down – in fact, many people say that come Christmas Day, real craziness begins! After Christmas sales have begun, parking lots are full, gifts are being returned, and bargain hunters are on the prowl.
So for those of you that are brave enough to face the holiday after math at the shops – here are a few tips to get you through the madness:
1. Know what you’re looking for – while looking for a good deal is always a fabulous thing – this time of year may not be the best time for “browsing”. Unless you don’t mind waiting in lines that stretch for days – it’s best to make a list and stick to it.
2. Shop at the beginning of the day and at meal times – doing this will ensure that you enter the malls at “slower” times than if you were to go at mid-afternoon or in the evening when everyone is finished work.
3. Not all sales are a bargain. Just because something is on sale, doesn’t mean that you should buy it. Unless it will fill a gap in your wardrobe, assist you in feeling fabulous, or is something on your purchase list – I recommend putting it down and avoiding impulse purchases.
4. Allow yourself time. If you are in a rush – this is not the time of year to be shopping – the stores will be busy, so any “in and out” shopping will most likely not happen. Wait a week or two for some of the crowds to thin out.
5. Be careful of purchasing fashion “steals”. While it’s fabulous to get a deal on clothing, be careful what you purchase after the holidays. Most of the time, stores are trying to get rid of their stock as it’s outdated and they have new merchandise ready to put out. I recommend only purchasing classic pieces after the holidays – any trend items will most likely be on the way out and only last you a couple of weeks without looking silly.
Above all – have fun! Grab some friends and make it a time to catch up and do some savvy shopping together.
