The Truth About Self-Care for Moms

10/08/18 | Mom

The Truth About Self-Care for MomsSometimes being a parent comes at a serious cost, and we’re not talking about finances. Parenting can take a toll on even the strongest moms and dads. We get frustrated, tired, angry, and sometimes just really sad. So how do we cope? We can’t just clock out and stop taking care of our kiddos, but we can take some time off for some self-care. The importance of self-care for moms is rarely talked about but we’re here to change that. We’ve outlined a few simple ways to buy yourself some time for self-care when you need it.

Learn How to Say No

No hasn’t always been a regular part of my vocabulary. But I’ve recently learned how powerful the world no can truly be. Instead of viewing no as a negative response, view it as a way to earn some well-deserved freedom. Saying no doesn’t make you a bad mom or a bad wife. Instead, it allows you to spend your time and energy on important things. Saying no sometimes is an essential part of self-care for moms.

Know Your Limits

If you’re burning the candle at both ends of the stick realize that what you are doing is NOT reasonable or sustainable. Ask for help when you need it. There is no prize for taking on all the responsibilities of child-rearing or household chores alone. Accept help when you need it and don’t feel guilty. We all need a little help sometimes!

Take Time Off When You Need It

Ask yourself an important question – when is the last time you had a break? We’re not talking about a hair appointment or grocery shopping by yourself. I mean time off with friends, to relax, to learn and to just have fun. Get into the state of mind that taking time out for yourself is okay and should be a regular part of your life. Relaxed mamas are happier mamas. Remember that!

With a few adjustments to your current schedule and lifestyle, you’ll realize your life is easier, more fun, and less stressful. What are some of your favorite ways to implement self-care for moms? Leave your comments below!
