Every year, I hate spending so much money on the same boring Halloween costumes. I swear every year they get more and more expensive! So the past few years, I’ve tried DIY and I’ve never turned back to spending $100 on a kids Halloween costume ever again. In honor of Halloween being right around the corner, we’ve rounded up our favorite tips to DIY your kiddos Halloween costumes below!
Who The Costume is For:
If it’s for a little who is pretty naggy and complains about just about everything, that’s something you’ll want to keep in mind. If it’s for an older child or teenager, you may not have to worry so much about it being comfortable but they may be more concerned with perfection when it comes to their costumes. These are good things to consider before you begin.
When and Where Will The Costume Be Used:
This is important because you need to know how long the costume has to last and need to make sure it’s appropriate for weather conditions, etc. If this is just for one-time use, then you don’t have to worry about it holding up well for a long period of time. If it’s the opposite, account for more time to make sure it lasts as long as it needs to!
A MAJOR component in any DIY project, your budget is one of the first things you should consider! Believe it or not, a great costume does not have to break the bank! If you’re on a tighter budget, start looking up coupons and buying fabric when it goes on sale (helllooo off-season!).
Even if it’s not fun, make sure to outline what your skills are in regards to what you’re trying to do. It’s important to set realistic expectations for yourself so you don’t find yourself going crazy half-way through the project!
Last but not least, think about how long you have to do this. Don’t put more pressure on yourself than you already have. Try and start early if you can and assume it will take longer than you think! Once you’ve outlined all the details, make sure you make a realistic schedule you can keep up with without going a little crazy!
