I’m going to come right out and say it: life isn’t perfect. The sooner you face this fact and accept it, the better. There is an ungodly amount of pressure to appear perfect. To have the perfectly cleaned house, perfectly ironed clothes, perfectly mannered children. On top of all that, a social life worth boasting about because your life is perfect, right?
The Truth About Being Perfect
Let’s start with the obvious, there is no such thing as being perfect. Who really cares if you have a stain on your blouse from breakfast? And what does it really matter that there are some weeds in your flower beds? Accept an imperfect life because it’s quite frankly not worth the stress on your mind or the wrinkle between your eyebrows. I can guarantee you that no one is going to remember that stain or that time your kid had a tantrum in the grocery store.
Your imperfections will help people be able to relate to you. Your imperfection is going to allow someone to take a sigh of relief because it happens to them too. We are only human, and if we didn’t have our ups and downs, we wouldn’t truly be human? There is a Swedish saying which basically means: “If you are never bored, you can never have fun.” Relating that to this situation: if there is not the bad and the imperfect, there won’t be the good either.
I say it is about time that we knock down that façade. No one is perfect; not you, certainly not me and not that mom at school who color codes her children’s lunch boxes. Instead of stressing over the crumbs on the counter run out into the garden and spend some quality time with your children or a have a relaxing cup of coffee with your significant other. I promise the messy counters and dishes in the sink can wait. When you allow yourself to experience freedom from the idea of perfection you will see life begin to blossom.
