Healthy Desserts 101: Delicious Apple Crisp

Healthy Desserts 101: Delicious Apple Crisp

Finding recipes for healthy desserts can be incredibly difficult. So many of these “healthy desserts” have so many ingredients with refined sugars and substitutes, which I really don’t like doing. I try to use as many healthy and natural ingredients as possible. The biggest problem I face is that I absolutely love sugar. I eat so much fruit but sometimes my sweet tooth isn’t fooled by mangoes or strawberries. So I’m always looking for healthy but delicious recipes to satisfy my sweet tooth. I recently came across this recipe for a delicious apple crisp. It’s no apple pie but it’s pretty dang good. Here’s how to get started on this delicious apple crisp.

Ingredients

  • 5 granny smith apples
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds, walnuts, or pecans
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil or butter
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Then, peel apples and dice into cubes of approximately equal size. In a large bowl, toss with maple syrup, water, and cinnamon. Pour apples into greased 9×9 or 8×8 inch baking dish.
  3. In the same bowl after it’s been emptied, add oats, almond flour, nuts, cinnamon, salt, coconut oil or butter, and maple syrup. Stir crumble topping together and pour into baking dish on top of apples.
  4. Next, bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes until apples are soft, covering pan loosely with aluminum foil halfway through to prevent from over-browning.
  5. Serve hot with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

This healthy dessert has real, wholesome ingredients. It’s rare to find healthy desserts that not only feel good but taste good! If you want to fly a little bit on the wild side, feel free to add a scoop of sweet vanilla ice cream or even some coffee creamer! Either way, this is a recipe the whole family will enjoy.
