Father’s Day Craft Series: DIY Giant Card

There’s no denying that shopping for dads is difficult. Men always seem to buy everything they need when they need it, instead of waiting for the next gifting opportunity. So, instead of compiling a long list of must-haves for this year, I’ve decided to make a father’s day craft! Everyone likes cards and being able to make a huge, personalized card is a great way to show your dad how much you love him. Here’s how to get started on my favorite Father’s Day craft!

Supplies:

• Cutting mat,
• White foam core
• Ruler
• Exacto knife
• Toothpicks
• Paintbrushes
• Pencil
• Eraser
• Black marker and Pen
• Paint
• Paintbrushes

Directions:

1. On the sheet of white foam core, draw a frame (about 1 1/2?) around the outside.
2. Draw your dad accessories in the desired theme within this frame. Such as fishing rods, grills, etc.! Keep in mind that you’ll be cutting them out and using the toothpicks to put them back in, so draw in additional 1 1/2? framing if necessary. Leave a rectangular section in one of the corners to write a father’s day message later.
3. On the cutting mat, use the exacto knife and ruler to cut out the frame.
4. Paint in your drawings. Since you’ll be cutting them out later, you don’t need to worry about painting within the exterior lines.
5. Let dry.
6. Cut out your shapes.
7. Use a black marker and pen to draw in the smaller details of your drawing. Lay out the props within the frame.
8. Carefully pierce toothpicks into the edges of the props as shown below.
9.  Pierce the other end of the toothpicks into the frame. Since the foam core is so light, you won’t need many toothpicks to support the props.
10. Write a father’s day message in the spot you left in the frame.

In 10 simple steps, you’re all done! This is also a great way to spend time with your kiddos, making memories that will last a lifetime. Feel free to get creative with your dad accessories.
