Sometimes, motivating ourselves to exercise is hard. When that chilly winter weather rolls around, motivation is especially hard to find. If there’s already a routine in place, it can be easy to slip out of it. However, if you’ve been dedicated, don’t let a few weeks of cold weather ruin your hard work! Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated this winter.
Visualize Your Goal
Think about where you are now and then where you want to be in a month, two months, three months, etc. Make a goal board if you need to! Cut out or print pictures and take before photos of yourself also. Create as much of a visual aide for yourself as possible. If you can create a vision in your head of what you want to look like, you can monitor your daily progress and keep focused on your goal. It will be harder to walk away from something you’re seeing results from.
Buy New Shoes
Speaking of investments, buying yourself a shiny new pair of shoes will also help you get excited about that morning run, no matter how warm your bed is. This is also an investment in yourself. You’re doing this to contribute to your success, so live a little! Don’t go too crazy, but you can splurge a little. It’s okay to boost your confidence by believing in yourself!
Make it a Family Activity
It can be really difficult to continue to remain dedicated to your exercise routine day in and day out when you’re doing it alone. It can also be difficult to do it with a friend, especially around the holiday season. So make it a family event! This can even extend to diets too. Whoever finds the healthiest meal gets to choose the movie for Sunday night, or gets to choose dessert. Think of fun ways to get your family members involved and interested. It will make a difference in your routine too.
Plan a Trip
This is the most exciting part! Give yourself something to look forward to and something that will make sure you stay on course. Plan a beach vacation to show off your progress and all your hard work. You can do this when you first begin, or towards the middle, but make sure this is done before the end of the winter. This is also a great incentive to give your family too!
No matter how you choose to exercise, making sure you stay motivated is what’s important. Not only will sticking to your routine make you feel good, but the results you see will make you feel better. Remember, it’s doesn’t matter what you’re doing, as long as you’re staying active!
