Being career moms with two careers is tough. We consider working and being a mother as double duty! There are tons of struggles we have to conquer, but finding a balance between work and home life is definitely one of the most difficult tasks for career moms. When we’re working, unless we’re lucky enough to work from home, we can’t spend time with our kids during those hours. We don’t have all the answers, but we do have some tips to maximize the time you do have available with your kids.
Groceries are a Weeknight Thing
There’s no doubt that grocery shopping is one of the worst chores we have to do week in, week out. It may seem best to hit the grocery store Sunday night after church. Bringing the kids isn’t always the first thought that comes to our minds. And there’s no question why. Kids can be impatient, hyper, and a handful to handle. Instead of going on the weekends, try going during the week. Grocery stores tend to be less busy, which means a quicker trip! Not only that, you only miss a meal or helping out with homework, instead of half of a day on the weekend.
Early Morning Exercise
If you like to hit the gym, this one’s for you! Not only is it good for you and your body, it gets you pumped up and gives you tons of energy. It may seem overwhelming to try to get to the gym after work, cook dinner, and spend time with your kids. Instead, wake up early in the morning and head to the gym! By getting an early start in the morning, you’ll make it back in time to enjoy breakfast with the family and get your day started with tons of energy!
Schedule Cleaning Days
No matter how many times I tell myself I start a cleaning list this week, I never get to it. I try to do a little bit here and there, but always end up doing the bulk of it during the weekend. Which I HATE! It takes out family time and tires me out. Instead, try making a detailed list to get done during the week so that way it’s not having to get done in 48 hours. You can try to rope in your family to help cut down on the time, too!
Tech is Your Friend
Sometimes there are late nights. Sometimes we have to work way past our normal schedule and things go a little haywire. Granted, there’s not always a lot we can do in these situations, we have to think quick and make the best out of these situations. Don’t feel guilty turning to technology! Video chats are used in our everyday lives for work, long-distance friends, and even when we go on business trips to talk to our significant others. So why can’t we use them to say hey to our kids!? Ask your kids how their day was, give them goodnight kisses, and let them know you’ll see them soon! It’s not as good as the real thing, but definitely helps when we can’t be there with them.
Embrace Odd Hours
You might not be able to find as much time as you wish for personal care. We’ve all been there. However, you might reserve your Saturday or Sunday afternoon for a you-day, which is totally fine! But, if you want to get as much time with your kids as possible, try leaving your weekends open. Look up your hair or nail salon’s hours as see if you can go late on a weeknight. You might miss dinner or tucking your kiddos in, but you’ll get to soak up as much time as possible during the weekend. It works out better in the long-run!
Granted, there’s never enough time in a day. As career moms, we juggle a million things at once and are still expected to stay sane. Career moms do it ALL and we deserve more props than we get sometimes. Although you might not be able to spend as much time with your kiddos as you want, you can maximize the time you do have available. What are some to spend more time with your kids?
