Around this time of the year, we hear it all of the time. Wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough. It’s obvious that no one likes being sick but unfortunately, sometimes it just happens. As much as I wish viruses knew how hard we work to avoid getting sick this winter, sometimes it still happens anyway. Since we can’t just stop breathing or stay at home for 3 months, we’ve gathered some of our best tips to avoid getting sick this winter.
Balanced Diet
Believe it or not, your diet has a huge impact on your day-to-day health. If you’re low on nutrients, your body struggles to fight off infections and viruses. It’s recommended to eat 5-9 regular servings of veggies, fats, and proteins.
Warm Liquids
Not only is tea a great comfort drink for the cold weather, but it’ll also keep your body warm and help fend off colds! There are so many antioxidants, vitamins, and immunity-boosters in tea. A cup of tea is a great way to start your day and keep you nice and cozy!
Exercise
As much as you don’t want to, exercise is an important part of staying healthy this winter. As much as you want those extra 30 minutes of beauty sleep, try going on a quick run, take the dogs for a walk, or do some AM yoga. You’ll feel better and help fend off colds and the flu!
Sleep
I know I just said to let those extra 30 minutes of sleep go, but overall, you really need to aim for a good nights sleep. You need at least 7 hours of good sleep to get you through the day. Even if you have one all-nighter or one night full of tossing and turning, your body is at a higher risk of infection.
Avoid Stress
Even though this is so much easier said than done, stress does terrible things to your body. Stress can weaken your body’s immune system, thus allowing you to get sick pretty easily. Sometimes life happens, but if you can set aside some time after your day to unwind, it will help keep you healthy through the winter.
Keep Your Hands Clean
Yep, you know it’s true. Germs are so easily spread from the millions of things we touch a day. Washing your hands multiple times a day will help you stay healthy and also help keep those around you from getting sick, too!
Even though there’s no secret formula to avoid getting sick this winter, there are tons of way we can help our bodies stay happy and healthy. What are some ways you try to avoid getting sick? Let us know in the comments below!
