It’s totally understandable why New Year’s resolutions are so popular. What better time to turn a new leaf than the first of the year? The first of the year always feels like a fresh start and a great time to quit bad habits. But unfortunately, a lot of motivation disappears after the first few weeks and our resolutions go straight down the drain. So what can we do? We’ve outlined our favorite tips below that make keeping a New Year’s resolution a lot easier.
First things first, when you’re thinking of a New Year’s resolution, make sure you really get to the root of what you’re trying to do. Why do you want to dedicate this year to fix this behavior or make a change? Remember, motivation isn’t always going to be there, so sometimes you have to depend on passion or persistence to carry you through!
There is nothing wrong with big goals. I love big goals and set a bunch of them each quarter of the year. However, if you’ve struggled with sticking through resolutions in the past, stick to goals that are actionable and attainable.
Pick One or Two At First
Speaking of starting small, make sure you start with just a few goals that you can really focus on. When you pick a bunch of different ideas, sometimes it can be difficult to remain focused and stick with them for the entire year.
So once you set your actual goals, make sure you start with baby steps. Change doesn’t happen overnight and it’s important to remember permanent progress will take time. So take it slow, don’t overwhelm yourself and remember you are human.
If you’re trying to struggle some pretty big and amazing resolutions, make sure you let those closest to you know so they can keep you accountable. Your friends and family want to support you and you can truly benefit from their support!
No matter how tough it gets, how far it seems like you’re falling behind or how badly you want to give up, don’t! Keep on going. Go back to why you wanted to commit to these resolutions, to begin with and keep that with you throughout the entire year.
