5 Tips for Glowing Post-Summer Skin

06/30/17 | Mom

5 Tips for Glowing Post-Summer SkinWhen the hot summer weather rolls in, your skin doesn’t always react kindly. From face acne to full-body sunburn, summer definitely takes a toll on our skincare routines. Unfortunately, radical skincare can be expensive. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on different products, there’s finally a better solution – DIY products that are fun and cost effective! The best part is, they’re simple to make and even simpler to use. Here are some easy DIY recipes perfect for glowing post-summer skin.

5 Tips for Glowing Post-Summer Skin

Skin Steaming

No matter how perfect your skin may be, it’s inevitable to keep your pores clean and pure. Whether they’re clogged with sweat or even sunscreen, it can be a really frustrating issue. Luckily, there’s a simple and easy solution! All you need is a pot of water and a towel. Boil a quart of water until it comes to a boil, then remove from heat. Gently lean over the pot of water, placing a towel over your head to prevent steam from escaping. You can always add your favorite essential oil for a luxurious spa treatment at home. Tea Tree oil works wonders for your skin!

Strawberry Mask

If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that experiences a heap of humidity in addition to heat, this one is for you. The humidity not only adds moisture to your skin but also causes your body to create more oil. Instead of a facial at your favorite spa, you can help your skin right at home! All you need is 1/4 cup of mashed strawberries, 3 tbsp of yogurt, and 1 tbsp rice powder. Mix these 3 ingredients together and apply generously to your face and neck. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with cool water, then pat dry. This mask helps clear out breakouts, tighten pores, and brings you that summer glow!

Coconut Coffee Scrub

For sensitive skin, coffee grinds produce an AWESOME natural, exfoliant! Coffee is a great ingredient to keep close when you’re experimenting with DIY masks. With this specific mask, use 1 cup of virgin coconut oil, 1/2 cup of ground coffee, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. To create this mask, just mix the ingredients together in whichever order your choose. The best way to apply this mask is while showering, which allows for easy application and removal! Just scrub this mask in circular motions on your face, rinse completely and pat dry.

Citrus Salt Scrub

Salt scrubs are some of the easiest and most effective recipes. They usually take less than 5 minutes to create and have really awesome results. This recipe is a citrus salt scrub, because who doesn’t love all things citrus? Whether it be a lemon in your water or lime in your soda, citrus rocks. All you need is 1 cup of fine sea salt, 1/2 cup grapeseed oil, and some drops of citrus essential oil. I use anywhere from 10-15, but you can use as many as 20. My favorite citrus scent is lemon or orange, but any smell you prefer will work! In a bowl mix the salt and grapeseed oil first, and then mix in the essential oil. Apply to the face generously, rinse and remove!

Honey and Oatmeal Scrub

Honey is one of the best natural ingredients out there. This recipe is for super dry skin, which is a huge problem in skincare. All you need is 1/4 cup of oats, 1/8 cup of honey, and 1/8 cup of olive oil. Blend oats until they become a powder-like consistency. The oats are the main ingredient and serve as a great exfoliant. Not only will they leave your skin nice and smooth, they’ll remove your dead and dry skin. In a small bowl, add in honey and olive oil. Mix and your scrub is ready! Make sure your skin is clean before application. Add a generous amount and gently massage onto face. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and rinse with cold water, and pat skin dry!

Regular use of skin masks and scrubs is a must in your post-summer beauty routine. They exfoliate, moisturize, and remove dead skin that you didn’t even know existed! Make sure to get to know your skin type, so you don’t irritate your skin. These scrubs are sure to get your skin glowing and healthy as ever! Do you have some favorite recipes of your own? Leave comments below and let us know how you like to rejuvenate your summer skin!
