Dealing with your kiddos can leave very little time for self-care. As much as I hate to admit it, I throw my hair up in a messy ponytail almost every day of the week and promise myself tomorrow, I’ll do better. Unfortunately, busy moms don’t always have a ton of extra time laying around and can’t spare even an hour in the morning. Between getting lunches packed, shoes on, and homework in backpacks, we have a full day ahead of us. So what’s the best solution? Quick hairstyles! Yes, they exist and yes, they are absolutely worth losing that extra five minutes of sleep in the morning. Here are some of our absolute favorite quick hairstyles for busy moms.
Half-Up Half-Down
A fairly easy variation of a ponytail – the half up half down can make you look put together without having to take the time to do so. All you need to do is quickly brush out your hair, grab a section from the top of each side of your head, and tie them together. There are so many ways to personalize your half-up-half-down, such as parted or unparted as well as how much hair you choose to put up.
Voluminous Pony
If you prefer having all your hair back, opt for a pony with two separate sections to give you volume and to make your hair appear longer. Make a low pony with the bottom section of your hair and then do the same for the top, hiding the lower one.
Bun
If you’re looking for a chic variation of the messy bun, invest in a hair donut to help make a perfectly shaped bun. For a cheaper alternative, use any clean sock lying around the house by cutting the toe off and rolling the sock down. Using a normal hair tie put your hair into a ponytail. Then slide the sock or donut around your pony, a few inches above the end of your hair. Spread the tips of your hair around it, making sure to spread your hair evenly in order to cover the entire thing. Finally, roll your ponytail into the sock or donut as neatly as possible. Continue until the donut is flat against your head and proceed to secure with bobby pins and hairspray. Still confused? Look up a Youtube tutorial to get visual instructions.
Two-Strand Waterfall Braid
This hairstyle looks so much more complicated than it actually is. To start your waterfall braid, simply take two small sections of hair from above your temple and cross one over the other, away from your face. Take the third section from the top of your head and let it fall over the section that you just pulled away from your face, falling through the twist. Repeat until reaching the back of your head and finish with a classic three-strand braid or just tie together and let the rest of your hair down. Look up photos of waterfall braiding if you are unsure of how to do so. Though this look can be perfected quickly, it always makes you look put together.
If you’re sick of a messy ponytail, don’t forget it’s not your only option. We may not have time for a full-on salon blowout, but keep this post in mind the next time you want a boost of confidence in the morning.
