Going back to school after having kids can be hard but don’t let that intimidate you. I’m here to share my favorite study tips that have helped me maintain a high GPA all four years. When starting college I quickly learned that I had to change my ways of studying if I planned on getting good grades. Below I will share some of my best tips for studying for a college test.
- Scheduled study time
Once you receive your class schedule go ahead and set aside AT LEAST an hour out of each day to go to the library and study. This may seem simple and like something everyone does but it is not. College is a whole new world for everyone. You don’t have your parents there always on your case to get your work done. If you want to get an A on that test then you have to put forth the effort so inside of taking that nap go to the library and put in the work.
- Rewrite your notes
While I know that some people highly discourage using laptops in class, we have all had those professors that simply talk way too fast and also happen to be the one professor that doesn’t post class notes online. So whether your notes from class are hand-written or typed, take the time to sit down and re-write them by hand. It’s a great way to review the material and helps a lot if you had difficulties understanding a particular lecture. I find writing in colored pens helps me remember material better.
- Go to office hours
This is so important!!! When a professor offers office hours take advantage of it. If you are struggling with a class or a topic your professor is covering at the time, who better to get help from than the person teaching the class. I take the time every single week to at least go to one day of office hours. If you stumble across a question you can’t find the answer to, write it down and bring them with you to office hours. Professors take time out of their day to help YOU so take the time out of your day to help yourself.
Don’t let college overwhelm you or stress you out. Purchase a planner and write down everything you need to do. This will help a ton. Don’t seek help when it’s too late, start early and put school first.
